Stop being lame and do something to win!

After last events I realized that I have to stop being lame and do something to win a fight. And it’s not a matter of wrong ship, it’s a matter of me: my nerves, my mistakes, my lack of knowledge of enemies. I lost few frigates already and my solution was to pickup better ship, which helps me to do the job.

It was partially correct. It helped me to understand, that I have to take a few steps back, give myself a time and space to learn. A cheaper one, because loosing precious faction frigates shortly will burnout my wallet and me.

Then I found myself watching a youtube and copy-cating Kestrel fits.

Why Kestrel? Because I love rockatz! And shield ships. Blue shield ships.

Do something…

I’ve bought 10 identical Kestrels with intention to lose them all and to learn something. That was the plan. Plain and simple. Cheap ships with not-so-cheap fits at least give me a chance and feel that I can do mistakes and learn something instead running with faction stuff under stress: OMG, I got hookbill and being me killed in one will be so lame! Or even worse, If I kill alfa-clone, and then be killed by somebody more smart, then what? No fly??

(I don’t know why, but pvp for me is a very important thing)

So, I was in that Kestrel…

Kestrel frigate class vessel on his way of doom.

I have jumped into low-sec and immediately found first target on the novice plex combat site. When I’ve hit acceleration gate, I’v turned on overheat on everything I’ve got and landed inside.

He was 1,5km from my, and my tactics was as the one before: because of my double web setup, I wanted to pull off the range till the scram edge, and then control a fight. Why? Did I mention that it was an Incursus Class Close Combat (Supposed To Be) Frigate?

So, his closer range vs my longer…

During targeting procedure I proceed with pre-running my overheated webs & scram and made it, when he bumped me, leaving my blood on shields and bouncing at whole 100 meters.

Being cold as death itself, I’ve clicked thousand times on an orbit icon, watching one eye on his speed, the second on overheating indicators and third on the range between us.

In meantime, I’ve checked directional scan (if something more is going to visit us) and my shields, which started to make squeal sounds.

Velocity of mine was obviously higher, so I’ve quickly got my ship over his range and… my scram’s range as well. Because I’ve switched of overheating, it just turned off, leaving me with two webs on his brawling Incursus and pumping Rage Type Rockets of Exposions into his armor. And hull!

(I’ve did a research about damage types and I was proud that I knew what to load into my launchers!)

So… I risked to overheat scrambler to get him bounded in this fight and keep my orbit. He was repairing his armor like crazy, but after a few cycles, I was sure that I will prevail!

Before last voley I’ve switched off overheating. Then he went boom!

My orbit was a bit higher which resulted that his pod was on the edge of my webs and over my scram. I thought that it doesn’t matter, because capsules always escape. This time my rockets were quicker and his pod also gone to Valhalla! (I’m thinking right now if maybe he wanted me to teleport him to his home?)

…to win

Yes! Finally, I’ve made it, won the solo fight! (Forgive my excitation 😉 it was first time since years!).

I’ve grabed what’s left on the field, waited some time in safe to timer go off and docked, calling it night.

Overheat everything

Overheat everything, they said. So I did. It’s always a matter of seconds, and in my case, a few seconds too late.

I was in my first Caldari Navy Hookbill, eager of targets and ready to fight. And most of all, I was in my new home, close to Caldari-Galente Faction Warfare space, Ishomilken system in the Citadel region. And… there was a bunch a corpies and nobody else around, so I setup a route through this low security space, to the system of Tierijev, looking for fights.

I found my luck in Okkamon system. Got myself on novice plex with corsed fingers, that one of locals (and there were many) will follow me in something, which I’ll be able to kill. Few seconds later a pilot in Federation Navy Comet frigate appeared and I’ve locked him. I was orbiting 500 meters around a beacon and pre-heated my all midslot modules (beside tracking desruptor) and was ready!

And fucking nervous as hell. My heart started to pump so much adrenaline, that I was blind from tunneling vision, and my only thought was: do not screw it up!

But I did.

He landed 5km from me and I was able to put my double webs and scram on him and managed orbit at 7,5km. My rockets started to purge his shields and after a time, I’ve noticed that I forgot to apply to him my tracking disruptor. So I did. His neutron blasters in that time erased 80% of my shield and I realized that something is wrong.

My TD has no range script!

So I decided to switch it off. He was deep in his armour and my even wasn’t scratched. And because my bloody tunneling vision I didn’t noticed that…

My overheated modules are gona burnout
My overheated modules are gona burnout

As you can see, scrambler is over 80% burned out, webs are right behind it. And I turned TD again, without loading the script. Sad truth had hit me right in my face: If I do not switch off overheat I’ll be dead!

First second: I decided to switch of overheat on scrambler. Got right button of my mouse when my cursor was over it, menu showed up and… warp scrambler module turned black.

Third second: I moved veeeryyyy slooooowly over afterburner….

Fourth second…

All midslot modules are gone
All midslot modules are gone

In fourth second I’ve managed to move my mouse over Overload stack icon and pressed left mouse button. Unfortunatelly, all modules was burned to coal, so my action resulted in switching happy green light over sad black mid-mods :/

Then I realized two things: I’m dead. And a fact, that my rockets are hitting without overheat, making 30% less damage than they could! Recovering from a shock, I was able to switch overheat on them, and watching how my ship is sinking, and his slowly goes into structure I’ve waved goodbye and started spamming nearest object.

Nearest object was a station, to which I warped and heard unpleasant voice saying that I’m not allowed to dock. Damn! I forgot about a timer. Quickly grabbed my capsule to some safespot, cursing in this moment a lot about my stupidity.

Okkamon system was in the middle of my route, 7 jumps in each direction from my stations. And it witnessed “gf gf” on local and I gave an explanation what just happened – comet pilot was sure that he won’t make it, and I flied off.

Overheat everything, the second attempt to not being inattentive

I was in the second hookbill making a long loop around huge FW fleet actions near Tama and neightbours. I’ve tried to hunt but they actively were following me, so I decided to jump in side road, making them lost my trail.

With success!

I thought that  losing next ship in such dumb way will be too much for newbie R1FTA pilot (and will bring a lot of shame).

In the system of Oinasiken, I found a Kestrel class frigate vessel visiting novice combat site plex. Because I’m a very brave pilot, I’ve jumped in. With everything pre-heated except TD and rockets.

Why not overheating rockets, I don’t know.

Then I started to close orbit on him because he was over 15km from the beacon.

I was closing… was closing… was closing…

He was burning out, making his orbit over 34 km and making me free of his warp disruptor. In meantime, I was in half of my armour and…

Doing nothing.

Completely! I’ve noticed, that I was so focused not to burn this time my modules, that I forgot to switch them on! Fortunatelly for my nerves, proudness and stupidity – I was 55km off him, when armour alarm started to buzzing and in ship in very bad shape, I was managed to bail off on nearest asteroid belt, then to safe spot.

Caldari Navy Hookbill Overheat Everything Edition

What an evening! I’ve realized that my inattentiveness has a reason, the reason was a late night, so I said to corpies good bye, and went to sleep.

Lessons learned

  • there is no need to overheat if you have your target in range
  • overheat icon is faster than trying to make it via right mouse menu
  • pre-run modules while targeting

At least fight with the comet was mine in its first phase 😛

Funny Wednesday with old pirates

It was a very funny Wednesday evening.

I was so happy that R1FTA accepted my application, that I’ve decided to burn all my small ships in Amarr-Minmatar FW region (if I fail) or of course better – to kill some sweet targets. On novice plexes. In my hookbil. So I’ve jumped and… found nothing. Then I’ve set course on Mehatoor, which allowed me visit Siseide and all that systems along the way.

Caldari Navy Hookbill

In Siseide there was nothing. I mean, nothing to fight, because scarred people were sitting in secret somewhere. Got borred, and jumped to next system. Situation was the same, and the same, and the same. Till I’ve jumped into the system full of red cruisers and BCs on gate.

– Damn! – was my thought. But no nerves, I’ve just looked around, decided that I try to bounce on my tactical bookmark and we’ll see.

Fortunatelly, I was able to made it! Five cruiser guys were too much for my lill’ hookbil, so I was jumping to the next system. Empty. So, next…

– Fuck!  – this time, there were cruisers and destroyers, more of them, blinking red as Devil’s Tattoo logo red is. This time I’ve started to saying goodbye to my ship but… made this again! I was able to break through and safe my position then I’ve looked at local:

Steven0ise > siema
Bubu Talib > siema :)
Steven0ise > latasz?
Ezoko > yep :)

(which translated from Polish simply means: “hi old friend, are you hunting like we are?”)

Those guys were well known to me, because… with some of them I’ve already did the pirate stuff!! Yaaay!!! In V O O D O O and Koza Z Piekla pirate corps. So, then was a fleet request, TS chit-chat and then I’ve played scout role in this small pirate gang. Yaaaar began!

After a time and heavy lurking in dozen systems, I’ve jumped to Sosala.

Three red ships, Slicer, Malediction and Orthrus, supported by neutral Stork class destroyer. Easy peasy for our Eight Man Pirate Fleet consisted from stabber, caracal, arbitrator, phantasms, ONI, T2 destroyer and my frig. We’ve jumped in and fight began.

The plan was simple: to wipe them from the gate, starting with Orthrus cruiser. And like every plan, this one as well didn’t stood a chance when faced with the enemy.

Orthrus was far away, we have catched malediction and then few more slicers appeared, followed by Armageddon Navy Issue class battleship and additional Orthrus cruiser. They wiped us, instead of we – them. Damn!

We killed malediction (which already was eaten mostly by gate guns) and they managed to kill our ONI, SFI and Phantasm pirate cruiser which I like the most, reducing us to 5 pilots being alive. We managed to bear off in various directions to our secret safe spots.

The rest of the night we spent on desperate looking for fights, but there were any. And with red killboard (with the little green accent) we have called it night.

Fly darengous!

Black Rebel Rifter Club!

Friend of mine in real life, Ereb Romerouse is a member of well known Black Rebel Rifter Club pirate corporation. He always talks about pvp, solo and fighting in small gangs, and most of all – he is asking me from time to time when I’ll return to pvp! Because in my past I was pretty active pvp’er (with lot of aspiration and plenty of bad luck). But recently I was so focused on making money, that I completly forgot how to be pvp’er. Then, I’ve decided to change something in my life. I wanted to fight! But I needed an goal. I’ve read R1FTA Manifesto and I’ve fallen in love for such philosophy of pvp in EvE Online!

by Miura Bull from Brutor Bullfighter

I’ve had to prove, that I’m the worthy person for R1FTA. The only way was to make explosions! Theirs or mine.

Tormentor – the first blood (of mine)

OK, first was a Tormentor. I mean, I took tormentor and went looking for trouble in route Egghelende to Kurniainen through Vard, Arzad and poking neighbouring systems. I’ve got a plenty bookmarks, did some new – to make my scanning better. I found Federation Navy Comet of pretty old pilot. And I’ve checked his zkillboard – was not so impresive, then I took a chance. Of course, I forgot to warp @ 10k at gate, so it took a while, and my hands were started to shake. AB overheated, and I’ve made first mistake – direct approach than orbit. Caught him, he as well. My drones and laser started do their job, his railguns too. Ive overheated lasers, then realized that burning scorches at very low orbit instead of multifrequency. Been so nervous that cannot change the ammo O_o Something was wrong, because I’ven’t seen multis to change! I’ve lost precious seconds, then realized that freaking Comet was tanked on structure. I was gone pooof and prepared to bail off my capsule, I’ve gf on local, he answered the same, and after a timer I was in next machine.

Tormentor frigate Eve Online

Lessons learned

  • More fights, less nerves
  • Open cargo hold in separate window for quick putting ammo into guns. And count your ammo! (there was no change option because I had three guns in one stack, and only 2 crystals for change. And this not works that way)
  • Accolytes aren’t good for gallente ships, but hobgoblins are. Next time release proper type.

Merlin – the second try (dead again)

I realized, that railgun commet will have a trouble if I offer him double TDs blaster merlin on close orbit. I’ve quickly reshiped and was on place. Unfortuatelly comet did a novice plex already and was in safe. I’ve spent over an hour looking in dozen systems on route to Kourniainen and back. I’ve even wanted to face destroyer in my Merlin – was so hungry of targets, but there weren’t many. Because of night time, I’ve decided return to my temporary base. During my returning, I’ve baldly checked every novice complex (just to faster this operation) and in Siseide, four on local, I’ve spotted Republic Firetail class frigate is following me. Then I decided to jump in and wait. Firetail jumped after me, so I’ve closed orbit on him with two scripted tracking disruptors. I was webbed and scrammed, which caused a low velocity of mine and quicker shield/armor shreading by him. But because there were any shields nor armour (TDs were my tank) he did pretty quick job, though at very low values, thanks for my disrupting his guns. My antimatter blasters did a quite good job, but to slow… Good fights were exchenged in local, and I saved my pod. Did home return and wrote this battle report 😉

Merlin frigate Eve Online

Lessons learned

  • Overheated AB – I’ve switched too soon, and didn’t noticed that I’m webbed. I’ve lost an 500m orbit for 2kms.
  • Two TDs are to much. Maybe active shield will save my fight?

What I feel after those 2,5hrs of being back in solo pvp? Feel goood! 😀

Next day I’ve published this on R1FTA forums and got accepted!

Hello cruel EvE Online world!

I’ve just returned to the path of solo-wannabe-freak. And I decided, that this time I WILL ACHIEVE my ultimate goal.

Be most dangerous and crazy pvp’er in this game. Or die a lot trying to be!

Watch me! (or watch my toon, Ezoko, my main character in this game).

Fearful pirate in the EvE Online

PS: or at least wish me luck to keep me on track.

PS2: What a great picture of pirates!!! ^_^

PS3: I know that this is a porn, and no-EvE Online pirates style, but… whatever 😉
